Game – Band Aid Relay
Depending on class size, form 2-3 teams,
and line them up at one end of the room. Lay the band aids out on the floor at
the opposite end of the room (unwrapped for younger kids, still wrapped for
older). The game’s objective is being the first team to have every member
wearing a band aid.
The children take turns doing the
following:
·
Run to the other end of
the room
·
Grab (and unwrap) a
band aid
·
Run back, and place it
on the back of the hand of the next person in line
·
Now it’s that child’s
turn
·
Repeat until one team
wins, with each member wearing a band aid (the last child in line places the
band aid on the hand of the first child to run)
Lesson script
Who remembers what we’ve been learning
about in the last few weeks? That’s right, the Lord’s Prayer! So far, we’ve
memorized the parts that say “Our father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
May your kingdom come soon.” Last week we talked about how we want Jesus’
kingdom to come soon, so that we can spend all of forever with Him.
(Take out the special envelope)
What I have here is this week’s special
message from God. It says, “May your will be done on earth, as it is in
heaven.”
(Across the top of the white board or
chart paper, write the column headings, “God’s Kingdom,” “God’s Will,” and “how
to.”)
(Read Matthew 7:21)
What Jesus mean when he said those
things, is that Christians should do what God wants us to do, not just talk
about it. So we do nice things for people, and we show God we love Him, by
trying our best to always do His will.
(Read Romans 14:17-19)
We can see that God’s will isn’t about
rules, but more about loving Him, showing people that we love God, and being
kind to each other. That is how we can earn our place in His kingdom.
(Under “God’s Kingdom,” write “love
God,” and under “God’s Will,” write, “love others.”)
That’s how we follow the Lord—by loving each
other. Let’s read about what Jesus said when someone asked him what the most
important commandment was.
(Read Mark 12:30-31)
So Jesus said that the most important
rules to follow are to love God first, and love other people second.
The special message this week, “May your
will be done on earth, as it is in heaven,” is asking God for something really
special. In heaven, there is no sin, and there isn’t even the temptation to
sin! God’s will is just what happens, and nobody even has to try!
Everyone would be so happy all the time,
and nobody would be hurting, ever. Another part of God’s will, is that everyone
gets to know Jesus with their hearts, and that we can all be forgiven for our
sins, by knowing Jesus.
(Read 1 Timothy 2:3-4)
Has anyone ever heard of the Great
Commission? That was a job that Jesus gave to all Christians, right before
ascending into heaven. Here is what the Bible says about the Great Commission.
(Read Matthew 28:18-20)
Who here has a favourite toy, that you
just can’t wait to show people when they come over to play? That toy is sort of
like the love of Jesus, isn’t it? As Christians, the very best thing we have to
share with people is God’s love, and Jesus’ forgiveness.
The Great Commission tells us that we
have to share Jesus with the people that don’t know him yet.
(Under
the “how to” column, write “tell other people about Jesus.”)
When we are saying the Lord’s Prayer,
think about the people that don’t know Jesus yet. And when we say “May your
will be done on earth, as it is in heaven,” we’ll be letting God know that we
are going to try our best, to do His will, by showing God and others that we
love them. We can do that by spreading God’s Word, and the Good News about
Jesus.
Sample Prayer
Say the Lord’s Prayer together, to
reinforce the children’s memorization.
