Use this Sunday School lesson on humility to teach kids about being humble.
Needed: a ribbon or trophy of some sort
Let's pretend I wanted to be a painter. Do you think I would get first place for my painting if I never tried painting before? Would I get first place for my first ever painting?
No, I wouldn't be very good at painting my first time. I would have to practice and learn how to do it better, and then, maybe someday, I could get first place for a painting I did. But I shouldn't expect to get first place my first time.
In the same way, Jesus said that people shouldn't expect to get first place in life right away.
(Read or summarize Luke 14:8-11.)
Jesus says that we shouldn't try to brag and be more important than we are. Instead, we should be humble, and if we are humble in life, then Jesus will reward us one day.
Let's pray about.
Sample prayer: Father God, please help us not to act too important or braggy. Help us to be humble and to wait for You to reward us. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
