Use this Sunday School lesson on the Bible to teach kids why we believe the Bible.
Needed: a fictional book, a Bible
Ask students, What is the best book you ever read? What's your favorite?
Who wrote that book?
students the book you brought and tell them a little bit about it.)
It's a really good book and the author thought of some really neat
things to make a good story.
But do you know what book is even better than this one?
The Bible. It's better because, unlike my other book, the Bible is true.
you think it's better to believe something that is true or not true?
(True.) Is it better to believe the truth or a made up story? (Truth.)
whereas a lot of different people wrote the Bible, it was God who
helped them know what to write. So God is the main author of this book,
unlike the author who wrote my other book.
Now who do
you think would be a better author, the regular person who wrote this
book, or God who is super creative and made everything in the whole
world? Who would be a better writer? (God.)
better to believe the truth and God would be a better writer than anyone
else. I think you're right. And that was what the Apostle Paul had to
remind the people in Galatia of.
The people in Galatia
had heard the truth about God when Paul told them about God, but then
they started believing other make-believe things, and Paul had to remind
them that God was the one who told him the truth, so they should
believe the truth that God told him instead of believing the
make-believe things that other people were saying.
Read or summarize Galatians 1:1-12.
the people were believing make-believe things that regular people were
saying instead of the truth that God had told Paul and then he had told
them. Paul had to remind them to believe the truth that God said instead
of the made things that other people were saying.
we have to be careful about that, too. We have to make sure that we're
reading our Bible and listening in church so that we'll know the true
things that God has said and can believe in those, instead of the
make-believe things that other people say.
Let's pray about that.
prayer: Father God, we thank You for always telling us the truth. We
pray that You will help us to always believe the truth and not be
distracted by the make-believe things that other people sometimes say.
In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
