Scripture: Genesis 1:26-27
Then
God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may
rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and
all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along
the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own
image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
Have you ever wondered why God made us? I mean, what are we doing
here? What's the point? What did God have in mind when He decided to create
humanity?
Well, to answer that, let's think about why we make things. Think
back to the last thing you made. I'm not talking about something you made for
work or something that you had to make for a project in school. I'm talking
about the last thing you made out of your own free will just because you had
the idea to make it. Maybe it was a piece of art or a piece of furniture for
the home or a good meal or a child.
Whatever it was, why did you decide to make it?
You made it because you wanted it, right? You simply wanted it. You
wanted to enjoy it.
It's the same with God. God didn't have any need to make us. He
wasn't assigned the task. He simply wanted to do it. He wanted you.
You see, God is a relational being. He exists as Three Persons -
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - all in a relationship with each other. They are
separate persons, but They are united in Their essence and in Their unified
relationship with one another. God, the Three-in-One, is a relationship.
God exists for relationship. And so, He wanted more relationship.
He made us because He wanted to be in relationship with us, with me and with
you.
That's why you're here. That's why God made you. He made you to
love you and to have a relationship with you. Wow! Isn't that something? God
made you simply because He wanted to love you and be in a relationship with you.
How can you say no to that? It's like the prettiest, nicest,
smartest girl or the most handsome, most successful, most sensitive guy wanting to love you and be in a relationship with you. You wouldn't turn them
down, would you?
But we're talking about something infinitely greater than that.
We're talking about the God of the Universe making you, creating you, putting
you together from the moment of your conception all with no other motive than to love you and
have a relationship with you.
God is a Relationship, and He's created you and invited you into
that relationship. Don't keep Him waiting. Say yes and join your heart to His
more fully today.
