When is Jesus Coming Back?

When is Jesus Coming Back?

In the previous chapters, we have seen what will happen during the last days and some of the things that have to happen before those events take place. The question now is, when will these things begin?

Matthew 24:36-44 – "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in Heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him."

Jesus is clear. We cannot know when He is coming back. It will be unexpected. It is something that we have to be ready for at any moment.

So. rather than trying to figure out or guess when the Second Coming will be, the more productive question is, What should we be doing in the meantime? What can we do to be ready for Christ’s return?
Take a look at these few verses.

Revelation 13:10 – This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints.

Matthew 24:13 – “…but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

1 Corinthians 15:58 – Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

1 Peter 3:11Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.

From these verses, we learn that we need to be patient, we need to endure, we need to be faithful, and we need to stand firm. We need to give ourselves fully to God’s work in this world. We need to live holy and godly lives, and we need to look forward to Christ’s return. Jesus’ second coming will only be scary for those who are not ready for it. If you are standing firm in Him, it will be the most glorious event that has ever happened to you.

Jesus also said that “this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened” (Matthew 24:34.) What does that mean? What generation is Jesus speaking of?

As Jesus and all of prophecies have shown us, all of these signs will be accomplished in the lifetime of one generation. From the rise of the Anti-Christ to the coming of Christ will be such a short time (seven years) that people will be able to live through one event to the other. Biblically speaking, these things are going to happen quickly once they begin.

The end will come like a flood (Daniel 9:26).

“When you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door” (Matthew 24:33).

“Yes, I am coming soon.”

[And the Church responds,]

“Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.”

(Revelation 22:20).
