Ezekiel 18:23, 31-32 – “‘Do I take any pleasure in the death of the
wicked?’ declares the Sovereign LORD. ‘Rather, am I not pleased when they turn
from their ways and live? Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have
committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of
Israel? For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone,’ declares the
Sovereign LORD. ‘Repent and live!’”
God does not want to send people to Hell, but
He does give them free will. If someone will not turn to Him and accept His
forgiveness, then they’ve basically said that they don’t want to be with God in
Heaven. Since God will not force them to go to Heaven, there is only one
alternative for them. They have to go somewhere when they die. That place is
Hell. If they have rejected Heaven, then they have chosen Hell by default.
If we accept the temporary nature of Hell, we
can say that God allows people to go to Hell to “learn their lesson.”
